Welcome to the April edition, This month has brought us the end of another busy spring break season, the last Mardi Gras night of the year and lots of lasting memories.
Starting off outside of the parks, Volcano Bay is starting to erupt with lots of vertical growth.
You can see more about the work going on there in our recent post.
A bit closer to the parks, Toothsome chocolate Factory is growing more by the day.
Facade work continues as well as some work on the roof.
The former clock tower has also seen some drastic work in the past month.
I would imagine the inside of the building is experiencing the same level and speed of work. We are really looking forward to this restaurant opening.
Moving inside of Studios, The work on Race through New York starting Jimmy Fallon is moving very quickly.
It appears a second floor and possibly third floor has developed inside of the building
Not to mention the facade steel work quickly growing.
Meanwhile, the work at Fast and Furious seems to have stalled out for the month.
While I am sure there has been a lot going on, the action has likely moved to land work to prepare for building foundations. In any case, I am starting to find the chances of an early 2017 opening to be slim to nonexistant.
Two small projects are also underway at the studios
The Robo-oasis between Men in Black and The Simpsons Ride is receiving a much-needed referb.
This is something we touched on last month, the project continued into this month and likely beyond. The continuance makes me curious about what is really going on beyond those walls.
Also behind a wall is the food and beverage stand at the end of Hollywood Blvd and next to Battery Park.
This is likely to be just a regularly scheduled referb of the stand, I would expect the results to be similar the existing stand with fresh equipment, deep cleaned and new paint.
Moving next door, with the track work complete at The Incredible Hulk, The work has moved to theming.
A green steel “canopy” is being installed on the bridge dive. I would expect to see something attach to these in the near future. I think a lighting package would be nice to see here, as I find it highly unlikely the fog effect will be returning.
While we are speculating on lighting, workers have installed electrical boxes around the lagoon side supports. These boxes could be used for some great lighting effects.
Painting is continuing on the tube as it transitions in color schemes.
The biggest change of the month comes from the queue
has transitioned into this
As a result of all this work on the queue, the normal entrance to Storm Force Accelatron.
A new entry has been temporarily built by Dr Dooms Fearfall that leads you via a secured backstage pathway to the queue for the attraction.
The other big project at Islands is of course; Kong.
We are so close to this opening that you can just about smell banana’s on his breath. The walls are rumored to be removed shortly; however as of park close on the 30th they are still present. This should lead to the possibility of Technical rehearsals. Though a small part of wall has been removed to expose these benches.
In advance of this, The food and beverage stand named Base Camp Provisions has opened.
This is one very well themed stand
The stand offers explores soda, hot dogs, and other snack for their journeys.
A new feature we are starting on our park “casts” here at WildGravity Travels this month is food find. In this feature, we will highlight a different food or beverage item each month.
We are starting off with London Taxi’s loaded jacketed potato.
This is a 6-8 inch salt roasted baked potato with butter, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, and chives. Since the opening of Diagon Alley, This has quickly grown to be my favorite food item in the park.
Closing out this month, we have some horrific news from the creators of Halloween Horror Nights 26.
Coming to this years HHN we have; The Exorcist
and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
We are really looking forward to these two additions and the more that will come in the next few months.
The parks also played host to the stars and crew of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt this month.
In celebration of Earth Day, The parks shared some of the green incentives they take to protect our planet.
Lastly, The line-up for Rock the Universe was announced. This event will take place September 9th & 10th in the studios park.
