Our 3rd restaurant review takes us to Islands of Adventure theme park, which as many of you know is part of the Universal Orlando Resort.

Many don’t know there is another table service restaurant at the park other than the highly awarded Mythos but our review is on Confisco Grille in the Port of Entry area of the park:

Food:

First up we tried two appetizers from the menu

The Loaded Smashed Potatoes didn’t impress or disappoint it was as we all expected. Presentation and portion size were nice being served in a cast iron skillet on a plate and enough to share as an app. A good dish for someone who likes potatoes. 6/10

The other appetizer was the far superior; Spinach and Artichoke Dip. Not only was the presentation and portion size amazing this is probably one of the best appetizers I’ve had in a park restaurant in a long time. Great to share and probably one of those dishes I would go to the location just to order: 10/10

Onto the main course, we start with the restaurant signature; Port Side Beef Medallions. The medallions are served with port wine glazed onions, sautéed green beans, and mushroom amaranth. Amaranth is a super grain best compared to Quinoa and was served in a bowl along side the beef. At first try I found the beef and beans to be very bland and unseasoned. However as I continued to eat the dish we discovered that the amaranth when used to top the beef added a great flavor. Overall a good dish and portion for the price (19.99) and very fulfilling as long as you like the grain. 8/10

Next in the main entrees, we have the Original French Dip. After trying a bite the best way I can describe this is by saying it is about the level of a fast-food chain known for their roast beef sandwiches. Even the au jus tasted very processed and not freshly made. Topped with provolone and served on an onion roll made it very much like its fast food counterpart. 4/10

Finally, in the main course realm we tried the Walk the Plank Signature Burger. A burger that was grilled and topped with potato planks, shredded cheddar, and bacon, drizzled with chipotle sour cream and chives and garnished with an onion ring. Presentation was probably the most impressive part of this dish, flavors just didn’t come together and the only highlight could be noted as the chipotle sour cream. Still, a different burger to try that some may like. 6/10

Closing out the food review, we tried and loved a couple of the dessert shooters offered to us. We tried cookies and cream and chocolate moose. They were both great portions to have after a fairly good-sized meal and left us satisfied. 8/10

Service/ Atmosphere:

In the realm of service we got great service from every corner of the restaurant and the staff were all very knowledgeable bout their product. 9/10

The atmosphere is something special and somewhat of a hidden gem inside the park. See if you can find something from each realm of the park! Being in the Port of Entry area at the front of the park, the inside of the restaurant shows some easter eggs if you will of other areas you will venture throughout your day at Islands of Adventure. The seating is arranged nicely and efficiently for staff and guests. 9/10

Overall:

A great restaurant that has some solid food but can be hit or miss. Our overall consensus is that we could eat here having only appetizers and dessert shooters and be very satisfied, especially on a lunch visit (usually the only time the restaurant it open) when you want to have a lighter meal before a long park day. The menu has a lot more variety than we sampled so there is almost something for everyone but our rating for now: 8/10
