Some surprise news out of the foothills of the Smoky’s today as the shopping and entertainment complex known as The Island will be getting a Flying Theater from Dynamic Attractions.
PIGEON FORGE — The Island in Pigeon Forge is taking a bold step to build on its growing reputation as family destination in the Smokies.
Bob McManus, president of The Island, said Friday the facility will invest $20 million in a a flying theater — “a one-of-a-kind, immersive entertainment experience.”
The combination ride/film experience is the product of Dynamic Attractions, an industry-leading builder that pioneered the flying theater with rides like “Soarin’ ” in Disney’s Epcot theme park in Orlando, Florida, and others in premier theme parks across the country.
“We are very excited to bring another premier attraction to The Island in Pigeon Forge,” McManus said. “This flying theater will truly be a one-of-a-kind, immersive entertainment experience.”
Since opening The Island with the Great Smoky Mountains Wheel, one of the tallest Ferris wheel-style rides in the country back in 2013, McManus said The Island’s partnership of owners had pined for similar flying attraction than what they had seen on their travels.
