Cobra’s Curse Construction Update #3 ~ Busch Gardens Tampa
For our 3rd update on Busch Gardens newest Family Coaster, we got a chance to check out a car that guests will ride and spin in:
In addition to that, we also had a chance to take a hard hat tour of the site and view some new concept art! Our highlights of this fun filled-day are below, but first a video showing off some of the story and some pretty cool time-lapses from what has taken place so far. (no audio in video)
Here’s a look at the entrance concept art for the new ride and below it the current state of the area that will soon look like the concept:
Once past the entrance guests will experience a highly themed immersive queue experience stating by passing through the dig team living quarters then progressing into 2 separate chambers of the tomb. Below a full queue layout concept art as well as some highlight concepts from the queue:
Inside, the queue will feature a habitat with 4 different types of snakes:
Angolan Python:
Gaboon Viper:
Jameson’s Mamba:
Rhinoceros Viper:
We also learned some new details pertaining to the loading platform including the use of a moving walkway platform to continuously load as well as a separate ADA loading area. This separated loading area will allow slower guests that might take longer to board the ride, take their time and once they are ready simply be transferred onto the track without disturbing ride operation.
A look from our usual angle shows the moving walking already being installed, the rest of the current station progress, and a backside look at the queue building:
Moving onto the ride details we learned how and when the cars will spin throughout the course of the ride. I have integrated the lots of today’s pictures into this portion below. First up though, some other shots of the ride vehicle:
To start, from the station to the mid-course brake the car will be locked facing forward. As we leave the station we encounter the Temple of the Snake King:
Here we see some new details added to the lift tower, I love Busch Gardens flower logo in the yellow wheels:
The first piece of the Giant Snake is already in place:
While slowing but not stopping through this braking section a motor on the cars will turn and lock it facing backwards to go through a small section and up the incline lift you will also be facing backwards.
To conclude the ride as you come off the incline lift the car will unlock and you will free spin through the rest of the ride until returning to the station area.
This is the first free-spinning drop on the ride:
The drop runs in a below ground level area along-side what will be guest pathways:
Immediatley we encounter 2 beautiful over-banked turns, again all while free-spinning. Notice the second picture flies right over the station area:
We conclude today’s update with a shot of the tunnel under the train, some footers standing by for supports, and a crane hopefully there to lift them:
